Update

On March 5, 2007 Apple released iTunes version 7.1 – I am currently installing it as I write this and I’m going to check into whether or not it allows a more simplified way to turn off or disable gapless playback. It’d be nice if they just added it as an option in the program preferences; maybe something like:

“Determine Gapless Albums?” with a checkbox for the yes or no answer. I think that would simplify a lot of peoples lives. Okay, so here it is – I just installed iTunes 7.1 and booted it up and it never started analyzing my music library, which means that iTunes 7.1 must use the same setting that were stored in my previous version. After browsing through the iTunes Preferences, I unfortunately did not find anywhere that simplifies Disabling Gapless Playback, however, it would make a ton of sense for Apple to add this feature to the “Playback” tab of the preferences page. Just a suggestion.

Here’s a new iTunes replacement called Songbird
