iTunes – Processing Album Artwork

Okay, so I had a bunch of fun on my home PC when I had to deal with iTunes and the brilliant feature “Determining Gapless Playback”. Today, I installed iTunes 7.0.2 on my office PC and I found a new one: “Processing Album Artwork” which seems to slow the computer down even more and take even longer than “Determining Gapless Playback”. I think iTunes is out to do one thing… crash my computer.

What the “Processing Album Artwork” feature does is looks on Apple’s servers for the album cover for each and every file that you have that doesn’t already have an embedded album cover. Obviously, this could take a very long time depending on the number of files you have. You have the option to perform this manually by right-clicking on any song and selecting “Get Album Artwork”. I prefer to use Tag & Rename –
