After reading the answers above, I wanna put forward my own opinions.
From my own experience using video converters, I often encounter the same question like " half-way stop" due to the function restriction of some software. What's worse, some of them do poor in synchronizing output video and audio. Luckily, another software called Moyea MOD Converter helped me absolutely. With it, I successfully convert my JVC Camcorder files to my laptop for playback.

The soft delivered with the CAM converts MOD to MPG, but at half size resolution (720x... => 320x...).
Not very interesting as you loose quality when playing back later on (or on DVD)

emicsoft-mod-converter-82376.exe seems to be better

In fact there are many tools can realize that function in converting MOD files from JVC Everio HDD camcorders , like isquint, handbrake but on my side, I more prefer to use this HD Video Converter

Mark 422
The way i do it is to
Use pcm4everio to transfer files from camcorder to PC (you can alos drag and drop using Windows Explorer
Import into Power Director (Not Power Producer)
Drag files onto the timeline and then you can trim, cut, delete, add titles & effects, chapters etc. You should be able to play each clip (file) individually with sound or the whole movie.
When you have the edited version ready, then select Produce and follow options to burn to disc, which will open Power Producer.
Add any refinements available in Power producer eg output quality, menus, and menu music, disc name. NB I almost always use the Smart Fit option to ensure rendered video fits the disc. Then finally burn to disc.

Hope this useful

Really good information here, thanks to all. I've managed to get .mod files to play on windows media player now using renaming and downloading codec for audio, but am still having problems with editing. I am using power producer which came with the jvc unit, and have also downloaded the latest version as a trial, but can still get no audio in power producer or on burnt discs. Any solution?
Thanks

I have the Everio GZMS 100U. The quality of the footage when played back on the camcorder LCD or via the cable provided to the TV, is fantastic. When I download to my laptop (again using provided USB) the quality is worse. The film is far from smooth. I edit with NERO. What can I do to get the quality I see on the camcorder itself?

I use Pavtube MOD Converter and it works well, very easy to use and I like their interface. Mostly I convert MOD to FLV for share or VOB for burning.

We have to choose the right web site to convert mod, there are a lot of sites say this is a free, in fact, many of which are deceptive.

I think everyones computer and hardware/software is so different that its near impossible to get help....

System: WinXP
Win Media Player V11.0

Changing ext from MOD to MPG does not work when playing to Win Media Player or Quick Time. (yes i have done it properly - i do have some, albeit limited, PC working knowledge)
Have no other media player to open with.... so limited to above

*.MOD files given to me - so dont have camera, or original analog/digital video to convert/edit/compress etc....

Just want to see the stupid videos.....
