This worked for me, elevated command prompt sfc /scannow, once completed reboot.

ok I have this error one one very close to it. However!, I am using an ATI radeon HD 4800 series. I am not sure that everyones conclusion that getting an ATI will help.

To all that seem to be having issuses with the nvidia chip. Need to Google nvidia defect. You find out that nvidia die having issue not working right by getting too hot and then getting errors. And since vista is graphic demanding does not help. I reconfigured my laptop with my geforce 8600 to windows xp for about 1 year now and no issuses from my chip has happened since.

Hey everyone. Just started getting this message severely after I installed FFXIV. Haven’t been able to play yet and its annoying as hell. (Pardon my language).

I’ve reinstalled the game, the Display Drivers, run all the updates that Microsoft demanded and still nothing.

Any word on a permanent fix?

I have the same problem with vista 64 and i had the problem using 2 250GTS cards sli and 1 275GTX and 2 275GTX sli, my driver issue did not begin until I started using nvidia’s 3d vision. I would love a fix because it is very annoying to be interrupted while immersed in a game.

Now this is brilliant. I have a brand new I7 system with a GeForce GTX 470 and I keep getting the same bloody error. I have a fresh install of windows 7 x64 with the latest nVidia drivers. Everytime I try anything with a more demanding 3D, first the driver error and recovery then system freeze or auto reboot. There really is nothing I could do to remedy the problem?

Been looking at internet for a long time now for a solution to the nvdia driver not working and has ‘successfully’ recovered…sometimes I dont get this message and game just freezes with a stuttering sound. It would seem after 3 years of people having this problem the only solution they came up with was windows 7…..im utterly disappointed in microsoft vista team and I will never purchase another nvidia product….ever.
I know it might not be a solution but i think i will revert back to windows xp as i cant afford windows 7 and I have zero confidence they will address any issues related to the graphics card.

I have went online help chat with the nvidia, HP & microsoft…
initially they get me to change the driver version of my graphics card… but no matter how i change, uninstall & reinstall the driver… the problem still exist…
in the end… my laptop manufacturer HP, advise me to do a system recovery on my laptop… returning everything to its factory settings…
And so.. i did that… till now… for almost 1 month… i did not see that error message…

I’ve reformatted my computer, upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and now get the “display driver has stopped working and recovered”, unfortuanately it often closes down without recovering and requires a hard boot. I”ve read so many suggestions on here and I wonder if any of them do truly work. I have just replaced my card as when I called HP they said it sounded like a card issue ( I had a new card replaced in Dec/09). This is so frustrating….does anyone have any tried and true solutions??

i have a HP desktop. 2 years old. the main problems are 2:
1. overheating… especially on left half.
2. display driver nvlddmkm stopped working and recovered..
i think i can reformat the pc completely and go for windows 7.

will it work..?
looking for the best solution…

Hey guys, i’ve been a part of the club for about 2 years now, my 9800 GT 1024mb DDR3 model has been a roller coaster. when I built my custom computer, I had 2 DOA motherboards, and this graphics issue.

SPECS:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Processor
2gb OCZ 1066 DDR3 SLI Ready RAM
500gb SeaGate HDD
850watt Corsair PSU
nVidia 9800 GT 1024mb DDR3 Graphics Card
Cooler Master/ATX HAF 932 Case; 3 230mm fans, 2 140mm fans.

The only thing I have left to try is to upgrade to Windows 7. My brother and dad have it, and actually like it, they say its alot easier to handle. So im gonna do that over this vacation.

AGAIN I RECOMMEND SWITCHING TO WINDOWS 7. IF POSSIBLE, DO IT!!!

Jessica is this what you did?

Make sure you download 2 files from the site. 1) download the newest driver for your system. the newest one should be 195.62. 2) get the inf file also. Then extract the driver to a folder. Then copy the INF file that you downloaded to the folder where you ectracted the driver files. Copy and over write the INF that was in the folder. Click on the “setup” launcher from within the folder you created with the driver files in it. (If you dont put the new INF file in the driver folder the driver will not install. it say something to the detail of could not find hardware installed) You should get a pop up saying that this drive is not certified and do you want to install it. Go ahead and install it. It should go through a normal install process when it finished restart you pc and test with your program or game it was having issues with… Hope this works for you
