Just found out today that ILD had been charging $39.95 on my ATT bill since 2007 for some 'unknown' service that I/we did not authorize. It was my company's bill that I do not regularly review but we are changing our billing so it was brought to my attention. I looked into it today and clear to me that it is fraudulent and 'cramming'. We are doing everything in our power to get the $1500+ refunded and have written to ILD to demand action. We have also notified the FTC, Consumer Affairs and the NY Times. And this is just day #1. ATT seems to be on board with refunding all the money but we shall see. We are a small business in California and happy to help more here to stop this.

I am working on behalf of law firms who are prosecuting a case against this "cramming" service on behalf of a small business in California. I am looking for information or witnesses regarding the supposed e-fax services offered by ILD and/or ABS ("Advanced Business Services") in relation to $49.95 charges added to people's phone bills. If you were billed for a service you did not want or did not receive please comment here.

I opened my Verizon bill today and was SHOCKED to see an extra $39.95 billed to me by a company I had never heard of. I went to the ILD website which said some "merchant" I had dealt with put this into motion. I called the merchant listed on the bill and insisted there was ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I would have authorized any such transaction.

The person I spoke to said they had MY VOICE ON TAPE authorizing the charges. When I demanded to hear the recording I recognized my voice on a call I received about 2 months prior. The woman who called said she was UPDATING an ONLINE DIRECTORY for my business. Since I despise telemarketing calls, I immediately told her I wasn't interested in talking to her or hearing anything she had to say. She assured me that the phone call was for updating purposes only and wouldn't cost me anything.

The phone call that was played back to me was sliced, diced and bogus. The "yes" responses I gave confirming my name, address, and telephone number were punched in to appear that I was answering questions presented by the operator that weren't even asked of me during the conversation, including details of how I was "authorizing" a change in service and certain monetary fees. That part of the telephone call was completely new to me and today was the first time I ever heard it. I told the "merchant" that the phone conversation was botched and inaccurate and demanded that the fees to my phone bill be immediately reversed. What a ripoff!! Is integrity totally dead these days?

I work for a government agency that has numerous lines in various configurations at scattered sites. I have to review our bills every month. ILD and your local phone company act as collection agencies for a form of organized crime that has it's roots in the divestiture of ATT in the late 70's. The problem is that your local phone company makes money from these scams too so there is little incentive for them to address the problem Most states have a government agency that over sees rateincreases and operations of telecomunication companies. Usually they are pretty ineffective but compaining to them is a place to start putting pressure to address cramming.
Next file complaints with the FCC for charges related to telephone services between states or internationally, with your state public service commission for telephone services within your state; and with the FTC for non-telephone services on your telephone bill.
See http://www.fcc.gov/cib/consumerfacts/cramming.html
Next find out if there are any phone companies in your area that do not provide 3rd party billing and switch. Thats hitting them where it hurts, in the wallet!
Next call up a local reporter and get some air time. make sure they give out names of telephone companies that do not provide third party billing.
Understand that the reason these charges are there is because the laws in your state allow them to be there. If you can find a politicain looking for a cause clamp on.
   Learn and teach.

Same problems here. My son tried to call me collect but since my phone is through the cable company it will not accept a collect call. I hesitated to give my debit card info over the phone but as any mother would do I needed to know that my son was alright and see if he needed me.I called my bank and blocked any further charges from ILD for the next 14 months and then I have to renew it. I have to pay the $21.21 for the 1 minute call from my son but at least there will be no more, I hope anyway. That is if they use the same company name. If they change their name and charge on that I have to start all over again. What the heck is wrong with the FCC? Can't they shut these people down? It is definitely robbery.

jason...if i worked as a waitress and tacked someone else drink charges on your bill and you did not catch...is it all on you?

what if i keep doing it and pocket some of the money? is it still all on the customer?

when does any of this become stealing?

found a bogus charge on our verizon bill. they will correct the charge but i had to call ild who initially gave me my husbands birth date and after confirming with my husband he did not sign up for 9/11 emergency contact services (wtf?)...called ild back and they wanted more information...umm you already have my husbands birth date, our phone number and our phone service provider. no more. just stop.

i do have consumer protection attorney i could contact and if the issue is not resolved next month i am sure he will be happy to reach into ild's very deep pockets.

People read your phone bills, I have worked for companies that use these billing co's ! The problem is people do not read everything on the internet! The internet is a different ball game! You must read everything you do before just clicking! People sign themselves up for these services over the internet a lot of the time because they don't read everything. It is not these companies fault, and they are very good about refunding money, I know, because I have worked for them for a long time! With telemarketing, the same thing, if you are not interested, just simply hang up! You will put everyone out of work in this country because of your stupidity, half the country is already out of work! I even signed myself up for one of these services over the internet once and was well aware of it! Not to sound mean about all of this, but it is our responsibility to check our bills! We have refunded people who have had charges on their phone bills for several years even, where as most co's would not have! Come on, it is our responsibility to keep up with our phone bills! Educate yourselves about the internet and these things will not happen. People are not stealing your info, most people are typing in their own info on the internet, whether they want to believe that or not, really most people don't want to admit that they typed in the info themselves for fear of looking dumb!

This just happen to my friend. She is with CenturyLink, for her business phone. Bill is 29.00 a month for phone services. Today she got her phone bill and it was 129.17. 66.17 dollars of it was everclear internet services 29.95 plus tax and 29.95 for Petcnfirm monthly fee and taxes. Petconfirm.com website. She states that my bill has been higher off and on then goes normal for a while and then goes high again. Go back and look at the bills, Everclear charged her for services and then stopped the last two months and then today her monthly phone bill was high again which got her mad. I take a look and we called CentryLink, who states on the bill to call 1800-433-4518 for billing inquiries, which we did not call we called 18774362277. CenturyLInk gave refund for last two months and blocked the third party billing and sent the rest to be investigated, they owe for 10 months of Everlcear. After talking on the phone to various people at the billing inquiry number we were issued a refund with the rest to be investigated just like CenturyLink. We were told that in the terms of service due to a contest that she gave personal information online and never read the terms. Also petcnfirm stated while were on a three way call with them from ILD TELESERVICES that the telephone being charged was getting over a trial period and that was the reason she now being charge for the PETCONFIRM.com services. How unreal............................................There r more crooks in the world then good people.....I hope I am wrong.....

Just checked the ATT home phone bill for october and there were some ILD Service charges. Nobody was home the night of the charges so there is no way we could have accidentally dialed the number it claims was dialed. I cannot believe how long this has been going on.

They are still at it. 800-321-Contact. $15 a month tack on. I blame AT&T just as much as these scammers. Why does AT&T let this happen. I will NEVER upgrade to u-verse because they are just as much at fault.

Well, we got out phone bill today and guess what. I had called home collect twice from the same pay phone, and the first time was for 9 minutes with a charge of $31.94 and the second was for 3 minutes with a charge of $25.04. Now that is totally rediculus. This company or whatever it is needs to be shut down. There is no sense in them charging people like that. My brother spent time in prison and called home collect all the time and those calls were for 15 minutes at a time and were less than $6.00
