If Apple’s most recent release of the 2.0 iPhone software update doesn’t make you want to jailbreak your iPhone, I don’t know what will. Ever since installing the 2.0 update, with the exception of my initial excitement about installing new applications, I have been frustrated by the slow user interface experience that the 2.0 update has caused.

I hope that Apple will figure it out and release a 2.0.1, or maybe even a 2.1 update. But you know Apple is always slow to release the next major revision of their firmware, so I’m guessing that we’re likely to see a 2.0.1 update before we see a 2.1 update. Either way, I need to see something soon, otherwise I’m going to have to go back to my Nokia 8801.

So as excited as we all were for the 2.0 update with the release of the apps store, the iPhone 2.0 update leaves a lot to be desired. Since installing the 2.0 update, my phone constantly lags and freezes. My contacts screen now takes about 15-30 seconds before it becomes functional. My list of text messages has become so slow to load that its almost better to just turn my computer on and send an email, and the PUSH email either doesn’t work with Gmail, or is just a sham. Not once has an email been “PUSHED” to my phone yet.

When will the 2.1 update or 2.0.1 update be released to fix all of the new bugs and glitches?

Are people having this same problem on the iPhone 3G version? I still have the first generation iPhone, so maybe I just need to upgrade.

A couple weeks ago, there were a few posts on Flickr and Digg about the black dot in the upper left corner of Gmail, since those posts, it seems that Google has removed the little black dot, but just because it is not visible, doesn’t mean that it is not there… It has now been replaced with a white dot!!!

Original black dot:

Gmail Black Dot

New White Dot:

Firefox
Gmail White Dot in Firefox
Safari
Gmail White Dot in Safari

How to see the new white dot in gmail:

When viewing a message that has an email address in it, click on the email address link. This will open a popup window to compose a new message. This popup window has a blue background, rather than a white background, thus making the new white dot that Google used to replace the black dot become apparent.

What is this??? Is it the way into the matrix???

I don’t know what is going on, but ever since I installed Firefox 3, it has been crashing occasionally. From time to time, when I shut it down, I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter window popping up. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions? Here’s a screenshot of the Mozilla Crash Reporter that appears when Firefox Crashes

Firefox Crashing - Mozilla Crash Reporter

And here’s the text that I see within the Mozilla Firefox Crash Reporter window:

We’re Sorry
Firefox had a problem and crashed. We’ll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.

To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report.

[OPTION] Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it.

[OPTION] Include the address of the page I was on

[OPTION] Email me when more information is available

Your crash report will be submitted before you quit or restart Firefox.

With the popularity of WordPress constantly growing, and the same holding true for the Apple iPhone, I’d love to see some WordPress developers and iPhone application developers put together a WordPress admin application for the iPhone that could be downloaded from the AppStore. Whether the application was free or paid, I think it’d get a great response from both the WordPress and iPhone community.

There are iPhone enabled admin themes for WordPress, but they just don’t offer the same usability that one might get from an actual iPhone application. Any takers? I might be willing to partially subsidize the development… very partially.

MacRumors forums found the iPhone 2.0 software update and posted it for all to download and install. Download it here, and install it today.

Here’s a great install guide if you choose not to wait for the official release.
