I don’t know what is going on, but ever since I installed Firefox 3, it has been crashing occasionally. From time to time, when I shut it down, I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter window popping up. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions? Here’s a screenshot of the Mozilla Crash Reporter that appears when Firefox Crashes

And here’s the text that I see within the Mozilla Firefox Crash Reporter window:
We’re Sorry
Firefox had a problem and crashed. We’ll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report.
[OPTION] Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it.
[OPTION] Include the address of the page I was on
[OPTION] Email me when more information is available
Your crash report will be submitted before you quit or restart Firefox.

1Yes it crashes a lot I get the windows error box come up saying Firefox has a problem and needs to close. Come on Mozila don’t release a new version until you make it work the last version was fine so give it to us back and scrap 3 for now until you have fixed the bugs.

2I have the same problem and it bugs the hell out of me. I heard that it can be caused from incompatible plug-ins from Firefox 2, but I removed those plugins and I still get it. Somebody please help!

3This error is caused by incompatible Extensions from Firefox 2, as Zach already said.
If you got this error then:
1) Start Firefox in safe mode[Start->All Programs->Mozilla Firefox->Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)]
2)Disable all plugins and extensions
Uninstall or Disable all Extensions. I had the same problem with Firefox[ error with daemon tools Lite 4.30.0 toolbar]

4Mozilla crashes are in proportion to the version number. Version 2 has twice as many crashes as version 1. Version 3 has three times as many crashes as version 2.
I’m going back to IE.

6I haven’t had a single problem with 3 on any of my systems but at the office I work at, the other person using 3 has had it crash TWICE (So I may make her dual browser it for the job til 3 gets fixed)
Is it because I have a giant love for foxes or something?
If someone can figure out the exact solution for this- I’d love to know D: IT is great for one part of my job, but I have to use the IE tab for the second part of my job…

7Well to me it doesnt really matter since the crash happens only when i close the firefox. which is frustrating at times, because it shows that firefox no longer distinguish between a user closing ff and ff crashing. Oh well, the customizations are worth the extra alt-f4 everytime i close it.

14After the trouble I had getting Firefox 3 to ‘take’ on my computer and now this latest 3.0.01 upgrade shutting me out altogether I’m ready to dump Firefox too. I like the way it works, when it works, but the aggravation isnt worth it. I want to turn my computer on and use it, not screw around troubleshooting a problem every few days.
By the way I have NO extentions or add ons so forget slamming me with that bullshit excuse.

15I have exactly the same problem. It started a few days after I updated to version 3.0.1.
Just as with most of you, unintalling, starting in safe mode, etc. did not resolve the problem. OS = Vista. Security = Norton Internet Security 2008.
Disappointingly, the Mozilla web site does not even acknowledge this specific problem with version 3.0.1. even though the problem started when the update came out. And, yes, I now am back with IE.
Computershopper and others just finished praising this latest update from Mozilla because of its speed and sleek features. But with those features it is just like the five empty chambers that didn’t do the Russian Roulette player any good who pulled the trigger on the loaded one. He’s dead!
Shame on you Mozilla for not even acknowledging the problem!

17So glad I found this forum, I have exactly the same problem – close firefox and the crash reporter comes up. I used to be a huge fan of Firefox and always preferred it over IE, but USED TO BE is the appropriate phrase. I have had enough now. I agree with the previous poster al m, use safari.

18Incredible that Mozilla does not acknowledge the problem. I installed Firefox 3 after being prompted. It no longer starts; just fails right off the bat. I’ve uninstalled, cleared out every hive in the registry that had the word mozilla or thunderbird, rebooted, installed from thier web site and still the same problem.
Microsoft must be loving this situation.

19I’ve had the same problem for about a week, and I did what WickeD said to do and it worked!!!!!
My Google Toolbar was out of date and now that it’s gone Firefox is back! I would have just kept using IE, but IE is ridiculously slow on my computer- that’s why I switched to FF in the first place.
Thank you, WickeD!

22This happened to me but I didn’t update firefox or change anything. Yesterday it was working fine, then today i tried to get on it and the Mozilla Crash Reporter came on. I deleted firefox thinking that i could just download it again. Now i can’t download it at all. I get to the part after you get to run where it shows it downloading then it just disapears. I waited about 10 minutes then I tried it again and the same thing happened.

24There is nothing you can do now, just uninstall it and use safari/explorer/opera..
Something in the new mozilla makes it impossible to use any versions of the mozilla..
you can try using the system restore if you didnt uninstall it already..
i uninstalled it then tried using system restore and get nothing, it wont open, just nothing, i gave up
try system restore…

26Just talked with Anonymizer support at 1-888-270-0141. They know that there is a conflict with the Anonymizer and Firefox 3.0.1 under Vista only. There is no conflict under XP.
They are working on the problem and are talking with Mozilla. They expect to have a fix soon.

32The only explanation I have is that Mozilla is all volunteers. So they don’t have this sea of programmers like M$ has in Redmond, WA whom they can afford because of their obscene monopoly.
BTW I am surprised that the conflict exists even with Anonymizer not running. However, I suspect you may not realize that even if you turn off Anonymizer there are still TSRs left behind and I don’t think you can unload those.
Go into the Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del) and open the “Process” tab to see all TSRs.

37Everyone keeps saying “me too” but it seems like there’s multiple problems. I can open and use FF3 fine, but I get a crash report every time I close FF normally. But I don’t get it right away, I put my laptop to sleep and it’s there when I come back. Really weird.
I am not using ANY plugins (just had a complete system wipe) so that is not the sole cause. I am not using anonymizer. It’s just FF.
It sounds like some people here can’t even use it at all, which is a different (and much lamer) problem than what I & others have.

38I had this same problem, but I didn’t even have IE to run as a backup. If you want to give firefox a second chance, this worked for me:
Go to Start–>Search
At the bottom, click on the option to “Search the Internet.”
Type “Mozilla Firefox” and download the Firefox link.
I reinstalled Firefox and whatever made it crash before was fixed. All my add-ons and preferences were in tact.
I realize this doesn’t fix anything, but I’m not ready to commit the heresy of going back to IE. Let’s not do anything rash.

41Michael, many others have reported it and I have found the same thing; No matter how often we downloaded Firefox 3.0.1, it crashed right on start up. Others have crashing problems on shut down of Firefox 3.0.1 and still others, like yourself could fix the problem with a fresh download/reinstall. As I reported before, in my case and many others the problem was a conflict with Anonymizer that is well knows by the Anonymizer people.
Too bad that Mozilla is mum about it. They emailed me with the suggestion that I send a crash report. Yet, they must know about these crash problem IF they actually look at the automatic reports they receive from every instant where Firefox crashes.

42Uninstall Google Desktop search. Then FF starts to work.
Lo
September 22nd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
43I hope that’s not the solution! Google desktop is the single most useful thing on my computer, if FF3 can’t work with it then I’ll have to stop using Firefox.
As an update, I disabled all the add-ons on Firefox (I hadn’t installed anything but there were media players, java, etc) and that did solve the problem. Using FF with no extensions is kind of lame, but hey at least it works. Now I get the same post-close crash on my work computer, and it does appear to be related to something from google based on the crash reports.

44We have Firefox specifically for the extensions. If Firefox is crashing because of the extensions, this is defeating the purpose of utilizing Firefox!!
We have a total of 16 extensions. It is very time consuming if it is necessary for us to go through each of the extensions to see if it is compatible with each new version of Firefox.. .. Actually, too time consuming!!
I’m sorry Firefox, you need more fluidity in you design!! We are unloading you!!

45I had to uninstall 3.x and reinstall 2.x available online at
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases
I know this is not a fix but if you need Firefox this may be the only way to get it to work for now. I tried uninstalling Firefox 3.x, Google Desktop, Yahoo Toolbar, and then re-installing on my Dell 5150 but it did not help. Every time I install 3.x, when I launch it I get the send error info to Mozilla window before Firefox even displays a browser window.
Goodluck and please post the fix if you discover it.

65For those of you who have FF crash AFTER you close it, try setting the environment variable MOZ_CRASHREPORTER_DISABLE = 1 to disable the Crash Reporter. This seems to have suppressed the Crash Reporter from popping up each time.
Steps:
1. From your desktop, right-click “My Computer” and select “Properties”
2. Click “Advanced System Settings” from the left panel
3. Click the “Environment Variables” button
4. Click “New” (can be either a User or System Variable)
5. Variable Name =MOZ_CRASHREPORTER_DISABLE; Variable Value = 1

68It worked for me, just go and remove the program, make sure you mark to remove all your data from mozilla folder. After Unistall go to Program Files and check that the mozilla folder isnt there. if it is there remove it manually, if not just go and download the mozilla again, this will make it work.

75I’m no Techie just a “Jane consumer” though maybe a bit of a conspiracy theorist ; But it seems to me if Firefox grew popular because of it’s reputation for keeping your computer secure, then just maybe it’s possible their competitors or other evil doer designer/ hackers may have something to do with the malfunctions. I am sure they are counting on us average, pretty dumb, very impatient Americans in particular to Give up go back to IE and be subject to all manner of evil again. 95Okay, so my FF has been working fine for a long time, with the occassional crash that is probably caused by all the windows I open. I click send error report, and re-start FF, it works fine. And today it has been working fine, but when I put my XP on standby and come back an hour later to open FF, the crash reporter shows up.
What am I supposed to do now? I’m using IE for the moment, but it’s not my preferred choice of browsers since its so slow…
help?

96Well my FF has been crashing every time I open it for about the last 8 weeks and several times a day. Sick of it – guess I’ll go back to IE altogether. But some people send me attachments that always seem to want to open in FF – Very disappointed in FF.

97It’s been crashing a lot lately, I’m now using IE8 which is a shame as I prefer FF. I sometimes wonder if it’s the addons crashing FF.

101I used FF for more than a year without any problem. It started to crash a week ago only when I tried to download some MP3 files from the specific radio station website. Later it started to crash with another website where previously it works just fine. I uninstalled and installed FF again a few times with the same bad result. Interesting that in the same time IE works perfect with the same sites but the Chrome has the same bad behavior as FF. My OS is Vista Home Premium.

102I have older versions of FF on my older computers and they function fine, however they don’t have all the bells and whistles the new version has.
FF works worst on my laptop.
It crashes all the time but I keep using it cause it has the best features for what I need on the web.
PLEASE FIX IT MOZILLA!
We know you can do it!

105Is Mozilla actually working on this?
I started getting this problem when I installed SP3. This was about the same time I upgraded to firefox 3. I don’t know if that has something to do with it. I also find IE to be a bit unstable.
This problem does not seem to exist on Vista. Its on myWin XP home system.

108This is getting on my nerves, today about 5 times already the mozilla crash reporter has kicked in!
Im running Firefox/3.0.8…
Can’t firefox sort this problem out? Its much better then IE, but the mozilla crash reporter is really starting to annoy me.

109There is a workaround of the problem I described under “March 15th, 2009 at 7:12 pm”
Instead of click on a “Download” button I only make right click on it and then select “Save Link as…” option. It works just fine.

111Strange. I had Mozilla working with Firefox 3.0 until I activated
my trial version. Very curious thing to me.
Wonder if doing some manner of registry cleanse will help.
I remember installing before or after a registry cleanse.
Somehow my activated install of Anonymizer and Mozilla
worked perfectly on my previous installation of Vista.
Sadly, I had to reinstall everything because the notebook
hard drive crashed.
The new install of Anonymizer does not yet work.
NOTE! After installing Anonymizer I just got 32 registry
key errors using Auslogics. Hmmm. After reboot I’ll
give it another try. If it works, I’ll post it here.
Thanks everyone!

112I don’t know what is going on, but ever since I installed Firefox 3, it has been crashing occasionally. From time to time, when I shut it down, I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter window popping up. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions? Here’s a screenshot of the Mozilla Crash Reporter that appears when Firefox Crashes

113The problem is not in the user configuration. It’s all just Firefox. I just realize that much, because I the version I had (2.0) was running smoothly. About an hour ago, Firefox popped up a window telling me that there was this “great” new version available (3.1), telling me that it may not be running with the plugins I had. Thinking THAT would be the whole extent of the problem, I carried on with the download. BIG, BIG MISTAKE: As soon as the setup finished, that window started showing, and it kept showing and showing. UNTIL I REINSTALLED THE VERSION 2.0 AGAIN, which is now working great, again.

114Olivia. The ANONYMIZER site relates their compatibility with Mozilla
2.0 They say when the compatibility issue is resolved, they will post.
Need a little cooperation between these guys! They need each other
as much as we need them to fully realize we all are waiting!
GOT NEWS! I’m not a master of Firefox browser code, but someone
(hopefully Mozilla) will want to tackle the problem with this bit of
knowledge (if someone has not already dealt with it!)
With ANONYMIZER running, MOZILLA will open up and functionn nearly
normally if MOZILLA happens to be your default browser and it is
executed, GET THIS … not from your desktop or taskbars, but from
the ONLINE HELP of just about every installed program I have tried!
As I have posted before, I don’t know what I did that before I had
to reinstall my OS I did that MOZILLA 3.0.8 worked perfecty before,
even granting proxy use, but if I run across it again, I will let you
know folks!
BTW! I really don’t believe that MOZILLA was the cause of my older
OS crash. The drive itself was proven at fault! Every tool I have
related it as a HARDWARE, not software issue. Just a bad hard WD
drive. Must admit I haven’t had much luck with them lately.

115To better clarify what I posted here before …
As I have posted before, I don’t know what I did before I had to
reinstall my OS that made MOZILLA 3.0.8 work perfecty before,
even granting proxy use, but if I run across it again, I will let you
know folks!
ALSO .. NOTE! Mozilla and Anonymizer had nothing to do with
my hard drive crash.
Again. Mozilla executed from the “online help” of many programs
will work while the features of Anonymizer are function, but without
the full stealth properties of a proxy.
A further note. My previous installation of Vista Ultimate did allow full Mozilla functionality with Anonymizer but at first it was not so. When
first Anonymizer was installed, all it would do is crash. Seemed at
one time to work better this time before registration if that makes any
sense at all. There was something I did before that made all systems go. The new install pretty much is identical with the same programs. IF, and I surely hope I do, manage to replicate the fix, I will keep note
of the procedure and post it here.
Blessings to you!

117The quickest and easiest way around this problem is to uninstall Firefox and then create a new user. Install Firefox again as the new user and work from that profile in future.

119It was really frustating to see again and again same window – sorry firefox is crashed. I tried every suggestion in the last 3 hours provided in above posts. But with no luck. Being exhauseted I switched to IE for sometime. But my love for FF again woke up in 1 hour. I tried to open it and strangely it starts without any crash window.
I am still not able to get problem. But it seems the problem is due to plugins, since i disabled all plugins as suggested in above posts. But still wondering why did it not work iommediately after disabling and why did it take around one hour to again work properly.
But I am happy for now that it is working……..

120I had the same problem when I opened up Firefox. ‘Cause I had so many bookmarks there and lazy to find them in my PC so I tried best to recover it. But in my case, it’s really simple: Just use IE to go to Mozilla site, download the latest version of firefox, install it then you’re done!!! After doing so, I opened firefox again as usual and it worked like nothing’s happened, of course with all my bookmark (thank god!) Dunno if this works for you guys though
hope this helps =D

imported my bookmarks and I’m good to go. no more wasting my time on mozilla.
