Gmail Manager Not Working – Has Your Gmail Manager Stopped Working Too?
September 21st, 2009 | Posted by in Random Stuff
For the last couple of years now, I’ve been using Gmail Manager as my main mailbox management tool. I’ve actually replaced Outlook with Gmail Manager too! I use it on my office computer, my home computer and on my laptop. Gmail Manager allows me to manage 7 different email accounts within my browser (which is always open).
Recently (about a week ago now), I noticed on my office computer that my Gmail Manager was no longer working. All 7 of my Gmail (and Google Apps for Domains) accounts now show a 0 message count, and when hovering over the icon, it reads:
username@gmail.com is logged in.
Inbox has 0 unread messages.
Space used 0 MB (0%) of your 0 MB.
Here’s the kicker… when I’m at my office, all of my accounts say the same thing: Inbox has 0 unread messages… etc. However when I’m at my house, everything works perfectly. Could this be an issued caused by the ISP? At work, we use Verizon DSL and at home I have Time Warner. Everything else has been working as it should, with the exception of my Gmail Manager.
If you’ve encountered this problem, please comment below and let me know what ISP you are using. I’ve tried clearing my cookies, cache, etc. with no luck. I’m really missing my Gmail Manager! If you haven’t yet tried Gmail Manager, I highly recommend it: Gmail Manager.

Same problem here. I thought I was the only one that had that very problem:
- @ home everything works fine (under Linux or Windows XP)
- @ work doesn’t work and I also tried to erase cookies or temp files.
Did you find any solution of how to fix it?
Thanks you.
I’m having exactly the same problem at work, and it works fine at home. I’ve tried reverting back to GMM 0.5.7.3 and 0.5.7.2 but both show the same problem. I can’t go back past that without reverting to Firefox 3.0 or earlier.
This post suggests it’s a change in authentication on Google’s part: http://d0x.com/gmail-manager-not-working-firefox-add-on-plugin-stopped-working.html
but that’s probably just speculation. It might explain however why it works from home and not at work (behind a big corporate firewall and proxy server).
Right after posting, I found this:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=332634&start=2295
It appears Todd Long (the author) has a partial fix in a beta, so he should be releasing an official update with the fix within a few days.
The current Beta if you want to try it out is here:
http://www.longfocus.com/firefox/gmanager/releases/gmanager0575b1.xpi
http://longfocus.com/firefox/gmanager/releases/gmanager0575b2.xpi
I have this problem on both of my computers at home (one on windows and the other on linux). I upgraded both computer to the beta version (0.5.7.5b1) and the problem is fixed. Thanks Russ for the tip.
I have tried the beta, but the problem is still there.
Thanks anyway
UPDATE
I just installed the 2nd beta and it seems to have fixed my problems. I’ll keep this post updated if anything changes.
I also installed b2 and it is working again! I noticed some folks who had the problem mentioned being behind a proxy at work – I am too, so I imagine that’s at least part of what the problem was.
It is me again. I had downloaded the beta 1. Beta 2 solved my problem.
where did you get the beta 2?
Hi, I was having the same problem and I got quite worried. I think the solution is just to restart your router and/or refresh your DNS entries by usind ipconfig /release then ipconfig /flushdns and then ipconfig /renew. Good luck
Beta 2 solved my problem, too. Thanks
found this post through doing a google search and beta 2 has worked for me!
If you are having problems installing beta 2 just download:
http://longfocus.com/firefox/gmanager/releases/gmanager0575b2.xpi
and open with other and choose firefox it should prompt you to install the add-on. Good luck!
Beta 2 has seemed to solve the problem for a majority of users… I’m not sure what has prevented them from releasing this as a final update… there must be some additional bug fixes that they’re still working on/testing in the beta 2 release.
gmail manager has become an indispensable part for gmail users. Beta 2 fixed the bug. I was not sure for last 2 days what was going on. every time my browser wud ask me for password. anyhow finally decided to google and found this forum. Thanks for the Beta 2 advice. It works charm.
gmail should incorporate this plug-in within their labs, i hope someday..brilliant plug-in this is.
Beta 2 worked great for me. I also had the same problem. Worked at home, didn’t work at work. Thanks!
Problem solve with b2
Bluesmaster
working fine now with beta2 update
Cheers, beta 2 works here as well.
Yup b2 worked for me. Now can you fix iTunes so it can download from work.
Thanks Maing!
Hey, I don’t know you, but you’re my new hero! Beta 2 worked for me, too.
Thanks, this was driving me nuts.
Beta 2 did the trick when Manager stopped working. Thanks for the tip!
Since October 2009, my Gmail Manager is Not Working I use Ubuntu and Windows XP SP2. I get exact same info as the poster:
username@gmail.com is logged in.
Inbox has 0 unread messages.
Space used 0 MB (0%) of your 0 MB.
My ISP is Cox Communications of So. Cal.
I will be running some tests and contacting the ISP, whom, certainly will claim “No change” on their part!
I just updated to the Beta ver and it’s working…
http://longfocus.com/firefox/gmanager/releases/gmanager0575b2.xpi
This must have been authentication issue on Google’s part…
I was having same thing – works at home but not a work…we’ll see if the beta 2 works for me…
Great job with the beta 2. Fixed the problem of it not working……thank you!!!!
Thanks allot, beta ver2 work for me too…
Thank you, beta2 finally works!!!
Thanks you ppl it worked like a charm for me…. all I did is open the link with Firefox and it installed gmail manager beta… and now Iam back o n track… you guys are a genius.. again
Thanks a lot, beta2 solved my problems too!
Not even Beta 2 solves the problem for me. Works at home, doesn’t work from my office (corporate firewall/proxy). Nothing I do makes a difference. It only shows a correct mail count on one (the first) account I set up. All other show Zero mails, even though there are mails there. Deleting, recreating accounts doesn’t help either.
This started with Firefox 3.5.4
I don’t know why, but Post No. 11 by Arben has finally worked for me, after many frustrated upgrades to the latest versions…. Thanks Arben!
When we had this problem, the fix worked, but now again I have a problem, all my accounts show 0 unread emails, but in fact when I open them I see that there ARE unread emails.
Anyone else have a problem?
hi my gmail account is not at all opeing
any suggestions for to open this gmail
Totally not working tonight all of a sudden. I’ve got the Mac version and every 5 minutes the dialogue boxes pop up saying to log-in, but when I click okay, it just flashes and reappears. Just all of a sudden tonight it quit working.
I was using Firefox 3.6 when this started. Now I upgraded to the beta version – 4 of FF.
Gmail Manager is doing exactly what you described. I tried using the beta and even replacinging a few tags like I found on a different post like this:

I replaced the beta file http://longfocus.com/firefox/gmanager/releases/gmanager0575b2.xpi with this one and dragged the .rdf file into winrar
to replace it.
THen i dragged the saved winrar file in to a FF window and installed it but all I got was the same thing the author of this post described.
Several weeks ago i have the same problem. No one of my 5 accounts can log into the server to show the new messages. I am frustrated, i lovve so much this utility but, now is useless.
I found this post, but I’m afraid is an old thread. Anynone has this problem now?
I has gmail manager in several machines, Windows 7 and ubuntu desktop but in every system i get the same result. No log into the accounts.
Any clue?
Thanks in advance.
