iPhone 3.1 Tethering Fix and Official Tethering Release Date

I’m not sure whether it was Apple or AT&T who decided to disable the iPhone tethering hack with the release of the 3.1 iPhone software update, but regardless of who it was, tethering has officially been disabled. My guess is that AT&T required Apple to update the iPhone firmware in order to be able to measure internet tethering usage so that they could bill the user accordingly. Take a look at the following screenshot, after installing 3.1, you can go to Settings > General > Usage and you’ll now see Tethering Data at the bottom of the Usage screen.
Whether my guess is even close to accurate or not, we’ll just have to wait and see when AT&T decides to release their approved Data Tethering rate plans. Until then, we’ll just have to wait for our good buddy BenM to come out with an iPhone 3.1 Tethering Fix. Come on BenM… get us that 3.1 tethering hack!!!
In the meantime, the only real fix that will allow you to enable tethering if you have iPhone OS 3.1 is to downgrade to iPhone OS 3.0. iPhone OS 3.1 officially has killed internet tethering.

… as a new Apple Iphone user, loss of internet tethering must rank right up there as one of my worst technological experiences ever. Brickbats to Apple!
I’m so fuckin annoyed with AT&T. We pay for unlimited datA, why does it matter how we view it???? I’m so pissed I lost tethering. I didn’t even think about it being disabled because I auto update my iTunes. No more. Automatic updates is turned off. When iPhone goes to verizon I’m going to cancel my contract ( with no fee
) with my secret contacts in AT&T and switch back to verizon. AT&T sucks a fat one.

Why does anyone care that you are going to cancel your account with ATT with no fee because you have “secret contacts in AT&T”….How is any of that information fucking relevant to the topic?
Now of course, this is also off-topic…but I don’t give a shit. Normally I’m able to keep my disdain for self-important douche-bags in check, but if you’re going to post, please, for the love all things holy AND unholy, make it fucking relevant….no one gives a fuck about what you are going to do with your contract or who you know. Yeah Amin that guy is right you are a total douche AND no one gives a shit about you or your life. Plus my super secret contact at Att says you call gay phone sex lines and you conract will be cancelled anyway for failure to pay. I know this is immature but this is the Internet and I will in no way be held accountable for this total off topic rant.
Also Att sucks. Fuck 3.1 and all that jazz.
That’s not the reason why… It’s because they have to upgrade from 3G to 4G so there will be room for the teathering texts and phone calls… Without that the system would totally crash… I called them and that’s what they told me…
