I finally updated my machine to Windows 7 and for the most part, everything has been seemless and has worked great. Even though I’m not one of the many people who had problems with Windows Vista, I still decided to upgrade to Windows 7. Partially due to all of the hype about Windows 7, and partially to satisfy my urge to have the newest and latest software. ;-)

Anyways, all of my programs work great, but the other day when I logged into Quickbooks to do some accounting, I got an error message when I tried to print some invoices to PDF.

Printer not activated, error code -20.

After doing some research, I found that I needed to “Repair” my Quickbooks installation, so I started to do that. In that process, I got another error:

Error 1334. The file ‘Ilxact3res.dll’ cannot be installed.

Insert the QuickBooks CS and retry or note the error and type this in a web browser:
www.quickbooks.com/support/update.html

I’ll be posting more, but in the meantime, I’m going to try to completely remove my Quickbooks installation and try to reinstall a new one.

Trying to open Homesite 4.5.2 in Windows 7 results in the following Application Error:

Exception EOIeError in module homesite45.exe at 000803AC.
Error creating system registry entry.

Is it possible to get Homesite to work within Windows 7 by adding a registry entry? This Application Error message would suggest that a missing registry entry is the problem, but I don’t know enough about Windows or the Windows registry in order to try anything.

Any help or suggestions?

Run Homesite on Windows 7

I’ve recently installed Windows 7 on my office computer and I’ve just realized that Homesite doesn’t run. I get an application error when Trying to open Homesite on Windows 7. The specific error is:

Application Error
Exception EOIeError in module homesite45.exe at 000803AC.
Error creating system registry entry.

Has anyone found a workaround to allow Homesite to run on Windows 7 without having to enter Windows XP mode? I’ve downloaded the XP mode that allows me to open Windows XP as a virtual terminal within Windows 7, but I’d prefer to run Homesite natively when opening it, rather than having to open a Windows XP terminal then having to open Homesite within that window.

If you’ve have any success, please comment below as Homesite has been a favorite for a long time.

If you read my last post about Adsense no longer remembering my login credentials after already being signed into Gmail or Google Reader, or any other service using Google Accounts you’re most likely aware of the problem with Google Adsense and being prompted for login information. Google has recently “fixed” this issue by adding a link on the Adsense homepage that says:

Already signed in? Take me to my account.

This is a great help (especially on the iPhone and other mobile devices), but I do miss being able to just go to Google Adsense and automatically be logged in and redirected to my account overview page.

If it wasn’t for Nike+ Plus, I wouldn’t run at all. The fact that I can have some sort of geeky tech toy with me when I run makes all the difference in the world for me. The only problem is that recently, my runs have not been syncing with nikeplus.com when I connect my iPod or iPhone to iTunes after going for a run.

I haven’t changed the way that I do anything, I always used to just plug in my iPod when I returned from a run, and the run data would be automatically sent to nikeplus.com, but within the past few months, I’ve noticed sporadic problems with run data not being sent/synced to nikeplus.com from iTunes.

Has anyone encountered this same problem? Here are some of the specs of the hardware and software I’m using:

  • I’ve had the problem on both my PC and my Mac computer.
  • I’ve had the problem with both my iPod Nano and my iPhone.
  • I use Firefox on both my PC and my Mac, however, I still have the same problem when using Internet Explorer on my PC and when I use Safari on my Mac. I went as far as changing my PC’s default browser to Internet Explorer and my Mac’s default browser to Safari. Neither seemed to fix anything.
  • I have the most recent version of iTunes on both machines – iTunes 9.1
