Every year, California Ford dealerships and Mammoth Mountain team up to offer free lift tickets for test driving any new Ford car, truck or SUV. This was the first year that I actually decided to try it out, so I stopped by a local Ford dealership on my way home from the office last night because lift tickets cost $87/day for the 2009/2010 season at Mammoth mountain. When I started snowboarding 9 years ago, it cost $43/day, so a free lift ticket is definitely worth a test drive.

I was very straight up with the salesman, telling him that I was not interested in purchasing a car at the time, I was just looking to test drive a car to get a lift ticket. He said that was fine, and asked what car I wanted to drive. I asked if he could just give me a ticket so I wasn’t wasting his time and he told me that Ford requires that I take a test drive, so I hopped in a new Ford Edge and took it for a spin. Upon returning to the lot, I left a copy of my license and an email address, the ticket is supposed to be emailed to you after test driving. I unfortunately haven’t received anything yet. It’s been about 18 hours since my test drive and I haven’t seen a ticket.

My brother went in to a different dealership and got a ticket no problem. Just chatted up a sales rep for a bit and didn’t even have to test drive. They just hooked him up with a ticket.

Update
I’m on the phone with the dealership right now, trying to get my ticket. They’re going to double check the ticket for me, “the site was down” last night and they “were having problems with it”.

Update 2
I have still not received my free lift ticket email from Ford after 5 days. I’ve repeatedly called the dealership and been given the run around by all of the sales people. I ended up sending an email to Ford Corporate about the false advertising: Test drive any Ford and receive a free lift ticket to Mammoth Mountain. Corporate was not help either. Here was the response that I got from Ford Corporate:

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company on 1/27/2010 09:29:55 PM. We appreciate the time you have taken to write us.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the lift ticket promotion is a regional offer, we do not have any information on them. Your local dealers are the best and only source for information on them.

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company.

Sincerely,
Dustin

How long does it take to get the lift ticket from Ford after the test drive? The few people who have received them say that they come via email almost immediately. I have been waiting 5 days with no luck.

There is a reasonable chance that the Ford dealer mistyped your email address, in which case you will never get an offer. Email me with your first, last and email and I can find out if you are in the system.

Which dealership did you go to? We had the same problem.

What’s with this promotion? We went to the Ford dealer in Thousand Oaks because we are in the market for a car. We test drove an Escort and liked it. I asked for the free lift ticket and they said “Oh, we ran out yesterday.” Nowhere in the ad did it say supplies were limited. No one offered me a rain ticket or a check for the price of the lift ticket. Fine. Because I make it a practice of not doing business with scoundrels who mislead or lie, this little stunt has cost them the sale of a car. We went over to the Mazda dealer and are now considering that or a Honda. Take note Ford!

    Same Prob!!!

I’m going through the same issue. Starting to think that Ford is just full of it.

  • BC says:

i think you are SOL. I’ve heard Ford telling people that they are out of tickets. I received mine the minute I walked out the door. If you haven’t received it thus far, I don’t think you will.

I had the same problem as well. Marc what is your email? Maybe you can look me up to see if i’m in the system

I was very disappointed with this so called offer. I went and test drove a Ford at Power Ford in Torrance 7 days ago on 1/26/10. I haven’t received anything. I called the salesman today and he says he submitted all the paperwork but they’ve been having problems with the website. My hubby did a test drive at the same dealer as did one of our friends. NONE of us ever received a e-mail. My brother and his girlfriend also did a test drive (at a different dealer). She got an email the next day. He never received anything. So out of 5 of us, only one person received anything. I call BS.

You can email me with questions or concerns at mfathauer@mammoth-mtn.com.

And yes, Ford is no longer issuing vouchers.

So here’s an update – Marc and Rob from Mammoth were great as far as helping us out. As it turned out, my brother was in the system, but his email address was not entered correctly – so Marc was able to fix that in a very short time.

My Ford dealer, on the other hand, did not enter me, my hubby or my friend in the system…after NUMEROUS phone calls to the dealer, we finally received the remaining lift tickets today. Many thanks to Rob from MammothMtn for all his help with this.

One thing I learned is that Mammoth Mtn has awesome customer service. It I didn’t get the tickets I was going to be totally unhappy with Ford, not Mammoth. It was Ford’s offer and Ford’s responsibility to enter the names and emails in the system. But the Mammoth guys were the only ones who actually expressed any concern at my predicament. I am sure I would not have eventually gotten the tickets if it weren’t for the Mammoth guys so thank you thank you thank you.

We went to Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood and told them straight up we were there for the Mammoth tickets. We test drove the cars and even went home and got our car for an appraisal. We spoke with the manager and customer service manager. Both failed to call us back numerous times. We have bought two Fords from this dealer but no more. We are done with Sunrise Ford as well as the Ford Company.

  • Johannes says:

Check with your local Ford Dealer,.. Robert Wasik at Power Ford in Tustin was who helped me,… he’s very nice and after a test drive introduced us to his manager whom gave us the vouchers,…. I will probably get a Focus for my son who needs a car,…. these guys were GREAT…!!!!

Got mine today 2/23/11 Thanks FORD !!!!!

  • David Keith says:

We still have Mammoth lift tickets available here at South Bay Ford in Hawthorne. Please send me an email to arrange your test drive. Thank you.

A lot of times when you come to the dealership sales people don’t really care about programs like this neither their sales managers so they don’t wanna be held responsible for some marketing program that dealer doesn’t pay them on. So, most likely, the guy took your information, put it on a sales manager’s desk to handle, and that just never happened. My advice is just go to another dealership when you have problem dealing with the one you went to and talk to the sales manager (nicely) :) . He ll give it to you right away since he’ll know that you are not gonna buy a car.

Please note the dates on this thread. The 2010 promotion involved the dealership collecting customer email and the process was then completed using information in a return email to the customer.

The 2011 process was simplified. The dealerships were provided printed vouchers to hand out to to customers. Dealerships were directed to issue one voucher per person test driving a car. There were a limited number of vouchers available and some dealerships may indeed have run out by now.

I would suggest calling a dealership prior to arriving for a test drive to insure that they have vouchers remaining. Mammoth Mountain does not have any vouchers available. Southern California Ford Dealers are in control of 100% of the vouchers. Please direct all inquiries regarding this program to them.
