So the new Facebook layout that was announced on 60 minutes tonight is not showing yet on my computer. What’s going on with that? From my understanding, some people got the new layout as early as noon today, but it’s now 9:30pm and I’m still not seeing the new Facebook layout. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any way to fix this, or do we just have to wait for Facebook to get to our accounts?
I was finally getting my site to be completely indexed in Google Sitemaps when I got the following error. And let me add that this error came out of nowhere. There were no changes to my sitemap, there was nothing updated on my server. Google went from being okay with my sitemap one day, to blocking the entire thing the next. Any feedback from people who have had the same problem would be appreciated.
Every URL that was submitted yielded the following error:
This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location.
I recently came across a new(er) website that simply lists out great ways to waste your time on social networks. I know I’ve seen things like this in the past, not necessarily websites dedicated to it, but just the little things that go around the social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. This new(er) site is called Fun With Social Networks and they create posts about fun/quirky/lame things that people can/will/have done on the major social networks. In reading through the site last night, I was intrigued by one of their ideas in particular, that is their post: My ABC Favorite Web Addresses The reason this caught my eye is that I couldn’t help but wonder… do people really have a favorite website for each letter? I couldn’t think of a Z website. And what do people do when they get to F… facebook.com, flickr.com, farq.com? Too hard to pick just one for some letters! Anyways, check out the site, leave comment, or post something to your social network and give this guy some cred. He’s doing a nice job of organizing some of the fun social network stuff that is being done out there.
I recently updated some of my clients from Google Base to use the new and “improved” Google Merchant Center. I’ve got the feeds working and uploading to Google Merchant Center now, but I’m having a problem. Under the Dashboard, it appears that I have no products uploaded. Everything is zero. Active Products, Search Clicks, API impressions, etc. However, when I go into the My Products tab, I can click on Active and see 94 products. If I click on Performance Report, I get the following message: No performance data is available for your account.
Has anyone else had this problem of data not showing up in the account? I’ve waited a couple days and my Google Merchant Account Dashboard still remains empty. Any suggestions?
I have been trying to setup a VPN connection between my home and office computer to make for easier off-site backups (for both home and office) but I’ve been unlucky thus far. I’m using DD-WRT on my home router and I’m trying to connect to that as a VPN from my office. Each time I try to connect, I get the following error:
Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx using ‘WAN Miniport (PPTP)’…
Error 807: The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze the quality of network connectivity.
I found a couple different guides on how to setup DD-WRT routers and configure them to allow VPN access, but so far, those guides have not worked for me.
If anyone has had any success setting up a VPN using DD-WRT, is there something that I could be missing? Any suggestions would be helpful. Here’s the error screen that I’m getting:
Recently, a few of my clients have been using twitter to market their products and services. There’s been a bit of a learning curve for all those involved, but after awhile we seemed to start getting some decent response. Lot’s of followers are coming along, but not as much interaction as I would have hoped for though. I’d say about 0.5% of all of our followers actually engage in meaningful dialogue and “retweets”. Where we’ve gotten most of our response is by holding free giveaways. However, it seems that all the followers and retweets that we gain from these giveaways are just looking to get a free product, they don’t care what the product is, they just want to get something for free.
Any experience with twitter? And is it all just spam/junk traffic?
I’ve been trying to setup a web form to send mail using my google account, but I have repeatedly had no luck. I’ve found many posts about people who are having the same problems, but have yet to come across a viable solution. Here is the code, if you see something that is incorrect, please let me (and others) know how to fix it.
System.Net.Mail.MailMessage mail = new MailMessage();
mail.From = new MailAddress("email@example.com", "Do Not Reply");
mail.To.Add(new MailAddress("firstname.lastname@example.org", "My Email"));
mail.Subject = "Email Subject";
mail.Body = message;
mail.IsBodyHtml = true;
mail.Priority = MailPriority.High;
SmtpClient client = new SmtpClient();
client.EnableSsl = true;
client.Port = 587;
client.Host = "smtp.google.com";
client.UseDefaultCredentials = false;
client.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.Network;
client.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("email@example.com", "password");
With the announcement of the iPad and the scheduled launch in March, this will bring the new iPhone OS 3.2. Since the iPad runs on the iPhone OS, the release of the iPad will almost certainly coincide with the release of the iPhone OS 3.2 software.
If you’re looking to update your iPhone before everyone else gets to, sign up for the developer program. Unlike past iPhone OS releases, I have not heard anything about the new features. Has anyone heard any information about the new iPhone 3.2 OS features? Anything new and exciting?
Awhile back, I registered a few domains at Yahoo! Small Business because they were offering an unbeatable deal at the time. I registered 3 domains for 10 years at $1.99/year or something absurd like that. The problem is that I have about 20 other domains hosted at GoDaddy.com and I’d prefer to get all of my domains over to GoDaddy, just for ease of management and access. Plus, I really like GoDaddy’s domain administration features much more than Yahoo’s domain management features.
So what’s the problem? The problem is that Yahoo! provides you no way to transfer domains away from them. At least within my account. I have found a nice little “help” page on Yahoo Small Business, however, all of the instructions on transferring the domain are unable to be followed because the links and buttons that it tells you to click within your account are not there. Here is the text from the How do I transfer my domain to a new registrar page of Yahoo Small Business Help:
How do I transfer my domain to a new registrar?
If you’d like to transfer your domain away from Yahoo!, we strongly recommend transferring your domain before you cancel. (Trust us, this will save you headaches in the long run.)
If you’re ready to transfer your domain:
- Verify that it’s at least 60 days after your domain registration date.
In accordance with ICANN rules, you cannot transfer your domain to another provider until 60 days after your domain registration date.
- Make sure your domain is unlocked.
For your security, locked domains cannot be transferred. If your domain is locked, visit your Domain Control Panel and click the “Edit Domain Locking” link. Learn more.
- Check your administrative contact email address.
Your new provider will send an email to your domain administrative contact to confirm your domain transfer. If you can’t receive the confirmation, you won’t be able to complete the transfer! Learn how to update your contact information.
- Get your authorization code.
To find your authorization code, head to your Domain Control Panel, and click the “View Your Authorization Code” link. On the following page, you’ll see your unique domain authorization code. Print this code, as you’ll need it to give to your new provider. Learn more.
- Contact your new provider.
When you’re ready, contact your new provider to begin the transfer process. Be sure to have your authorization code handy, as your new provider will need it to verify the move.
- Cancel your plan.
Once your transfer is complete, we’ll send you an email confirming the transfer. (You can also check this status with your new provider. The transfer should be complete in five to nine days.) When you receive this confirmation, you may cancel your plan. Note that Yahoo! does not automatically cancel your service when you transfer your domain.
Note: Some hosting providers cannot manage domain registrations. If you’d still like to use your domain with this kind of provider, you can redirect, or redelegate, your Yahoo! name servers to point to that provider. In this case, do not cancel your plan, as you’ll need it to continue managing your domain through Yahoo!; instead you may downgrade to a Yahoo! Domains plan.

If you have dealt with Yahoo and transferring domains away from them, I’d love to hear your comments and input. I can’t stand using their interface and would love to get my domains away from them ASAP. Please help!
When I got into the office this morning, I noticed that Apple stock price had jumped nearly 5%. Upon doing a little bit of research, I noticed that there is a planned announcement of a new device in the near future, the Apple tablet – which has a host of potential nicknames, including the iTablet, the iSlate or the iPad. Whatever name Apple chooses to use for the new tablet, there is one thing for certain – it will probably revolutionize the way that tablet PC’s work.
I’m sure that Apple has probably spent a ton of time researching the best way for a tablet PC to operate and I’m more than certain that the Apple tablet will be like nothing we’ve seen before, just like the iPhone when it was initially released.
It is said that the Apple tablet will have the potential to revitalize the newspaper industry by allowing digital or virtual subscriptions. The Apple tablet will also have the potential to push the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook out of the marketplace because it will be so much more powerful, though the price tag will also be a lot higher than that of the Kindle or Nook.
Whatever the new Apple tablet does, one thing is for certain… it will add to Apple’s already great line of consumer devices.
