Being a fan of lowered cars and lifted trucks, I know a lot of people who work in the automotive industry either for large manufacturers, small tuner shops, automotive photographers, automotive writers, etc. One thing I’ve come to notice is that most of these groups have absolutely terrible websites – especially those who need to manage and maintain large amounts of data. That’s where idcubed.com‘s automotive.NET system comes in. automotive.NET is an aftermarket parts management system that allows users to maintain a listing of vehicles, brands, categories, parts as well as maintain mappings between each of those.

The automotive.NET system literally takes all of the work out of creating a website and lets you focus on parts, vehicles, categories and brands. You simply have to manage YOUR information, and not worry about creating/designing a website. If you are looking to sell car and truck parts online I’d highly suggest that you check out idcubed.com, inc. automotive.NET system.

Using Firefox on my Mac has been great, I’ve never had any problems with it. Actually, I shouldn’t say that we I haven’t had any problems with it, but when compared with Firefox on my PC, the problems with Firefox on my Mac have been few and far between, until recently, when I came across a single website that gives me the following error message:

Failed to Connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at sitename.com.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

  • Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
  • Are you unable to browse other sites?  Check the computer’s network connection.
  • Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

I’ve searched around and most sites say that this is a firewall problem, however, I don’t have any firewall software running on my Mac. I’m connected to a Linksys wireless router, and when connecting to the same router from my PC, I’m able to connect to the website with no problems.

Has anyone else come across this problem? And if so, what did you do to resolve the problem?

I recently installed the Windows 7 beta on my home computer and love everything about it. The operating system as a whole is great, and I have no complaints… especially when compared to Windows Vista. Anyways, I recently tried to backup my photo folder on my computer to my external hard drive, and I realized that it was not listed in my list of available drives. So I went to my device manager and it wasn’t found there either. I then tried disconnecting and reconnecting it with no luck. When I open up the USB tree in the device manager, I find an “Unsupported USB Device”, which I am assuming is my external hard drive.

Just to make sure that my drive still works, I brought it to work and plugged it into my computer, and it works perfectly. So there is something with Windows 7 that is causing my external hard drive to not be recognized. Any suggestions?

I’m using:

  • Windows 7
  • Western Digital 500GB MyBook External Hard Drive

Awhile back, I downloaded and installed the Simplified WordPress theme from justskins.com, basically because of the fact that it was exactly what it stated that it was… SIMPLIFIED. The only problem with it was that there was an open <div> tag left somewhere so that would cause the right sidebar to sometimes fall below the comment form, and on the posts where there were no comments, the entire background of the site would bot show up. After reading a couple of the suggested fixes on justskins.com, I realized that though they fixed the problem on the page that was erroring out, they’d then cause another problem. That’s why I’ve just gone ahead and released this new solution.

I’ve zipped up the comments.php file and it can be downloaded below. It fixes all of the post display problems with the Simplified WordPress Theme. I hope this helps those of you who use the theme! Good luck!

We recently upgraded a server to Windows Server 2008, and some of our old applications decided that they no longer want to work. We are now having problems with the asp:ListView object, constantly getting the error Unknown server tag ‘asp:ListView’.

I’ve found a few articles (quite a few) that all point to the web.config file, saying that you need to add these lines:

<assemblies>
  <add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
</assemblies>

<pages>
  <controls>
    <add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
    <add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
  </controls>
</pages>

The best (and only) solution for the problem Unknown server tag ‘asp:ListView’ on Windows Server 2008 is to completely uninstal the .NET Framework 3.5 and the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Download them from Microsoft – Do not install them through the Server Roles feature in Windows Server 2008 – and reinstall them from the installation packages.

Hope this helps!

Many times, you’ll find it necessary to have multiple connections to a Remote Desktop server, and by default, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Window Vista, Windows XP, etc. limit the number of Remote Desktop Connections to 1 user.

On Windows Server 2008, the Restrict Terminal Services users to a single remote session Group Policy setting determines whether you can connect to your existing physical console session. When this option is enabled, when logging on by default, you will be restricted to a single remote session.

This setting is available in the Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Connections node of the Local Group Policy Editor. You can also configure this setting in Terminal Services Configuration. The Restrict each user to a single session setting appears in Edit settings in the General section.

If you would like to have multiple simultaneous sessions for the same user, please uncheck this setting or set this group policy as Disabled.

For more information regarding Changes to remote administration in Windows Server 2008, please refer to the following KB article:

Recently, I updated my office computer to iTunes 8, and since the update, iTunes just will not load for me. Once I updated iTunes and restarted my system, I get the following messages.

First Message

Please wait while Windows configures iTunes.

Second (most frustrating) Message

You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to iTunes to take effect. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to manually restart later.

Basically, my iTunes installation is in a never-ending loop of configuring itself and then asking for my computer to be restarted. Is there any way to get around this problem? I’ve tried uninstalling iTunes and deleting all of the files associated with it, but once I downloaded and installed iTunes again, I encountered the same problem. Endless loop.

I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my home PC, which previously had Windows Vista Home Premium installed. Upon installing Windows Vista Ultimate, I have had a problem of the PC taking a terribly long time to wake up from sleep mode. It literally takes 5-7 minutes. When I’m done using the computer, I’ll press the “SLEEP” button on my keyboard, which will put the computer right to sleep/power saving mode. Upon returning to the computer, I can press a mouse button or any button on the keyboard to wake the computer up. When it wakes up, I am almost immediately presented with the logon/password screen, and after entering my password, the desktop will display, but is unusable for about 5-7 minutes. When I was running Windows Vista Home Premium, the desktop would be immediately useable with no lag time at all.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any solutions or workarounds? Probably should just keep using my Mac, right?

A couple weeks ago, it was announced that the WordPress developers were looking for icon designers who’d be able to help create icons for the November 10th release date of WordPress 2.7. It’s now mid-day on November 11th, and WordPress 2.7 has yet to be released.

Any guesses as to the actual release date of WordPress 2.7? Will they let it out this week, or is it going to be postponed for another couple weeks to make it absolutely perfect? I say release it now… there’s always room for 2.7.1 and 2.7.2, right?
